The Winchester Model 1873 is known as “the gun that won the west” due to its use by western settlers (Jones). This rifle was a favorite of President Theodore Roosevelt and he championed its use (Jones). This gun was one of, if not the first firearms that were widely accessible to the common man (Winchester Model 1873 Repeating Rifle). This insured the Second Amendment rights for citizens. This gun featured new technology that had not yet been seen. The gun body housed all the major components of the rifle (Winchester Model 1873 Repeating Rifle). The new “finger level” made the repeating action of this rifle possible (Winchester Model 1873 Repeating Rifle). Its forerunning component was the lever action repeating assembly, which made this rifle easy to use for the operator (Winchester Model 1873 Repeating Rifle). Even though this rifle was not used in any wars, its invention was still a significant step in the evolution of the firearm due to its wide availability and its easy use.
